International Verifications
There are some challenges in obtaining international verifications. Beyond the obvious time and language barriers, the largest hurdle is reaching an operator to connect a call to remote areas. Though GIS International Screening has found it is possible to get through to most areas the time involved in getting through to remote areas must be taken into consideration when evaluating turnaround time. Another challenge is obtaining up-to-date telephone listings for businesses and educational institutions. It is very helpful when applicants provide as much information as possible.
Differing standards relating to data protection (Privacy) laws can also make data less accessible. For instance, though the vast majority of institutions in the European Union will provide verification information without hesitation, some EU based companies and schools mistakenly cite the EU Data Protection Directive as a reason to not provide verifications.
There are over 3,500 overseas universities which includes more than 23,000 academic departments, their constituent colleges and selected centers. GIS International Screening provides research staff with up-to-date phone, fax and e-mail addresses of Overseas University Registrar Offices and Controller of Examinations.
Overseas Education Verification
GIS has a multi-lingual staff to facilitate international education verifications. We determine if an applicant’s college is internationally accredited, verify the institution’s name, school campus, location, telephone number, dates of study, degree received and subject of study. We also provide contact information for the institution’s registrar’s office. A search of our proprietary DiplomaMill Database (DMD) is performed on any “A-typical” institutions that come up during the verification process. The DMD contains details on thousands of bogus US and International educational organizations that sell unaccredited “degrees” by post or on-line. In addition, GIS has developed a proprietary Academic Directory that provides up-to-date information about foreign education institutions.

Overseas Academic Evaluation
GIS International Screening will identify, verify and describe each international diploma or certificate. Our evaluation indicates periods of education and grade point average and provides an equivalency for each document. The report also lists all subjects an applicant completed at post-secondary level and provides a US credit and grade point equivalent for each course. We also provide a grade point average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale and designate the level (upper or lower) of each undergraduate course. Our enhanced report includes copies of original transcripts from overseas source institutions and validations or registration/licensure from the issuing authorities.
